Description:
Volunteers Chase Africa offers international volunteers the opportunity of a lifetime. A two month trip (July-August) across Kenya carrying out public health campaigns and environmental awareness among rural tribes and communities; whilst enjoying a unique safari experience, travelling across Kenya (from the Western Ugandan border to the Indian Ocean coast) visiting many of its spectacular sites including a three day Maasai Mara safari. With the motto: 'Healing and Empowering communities of Africa', Chase introduces volunteers to the many issues facing a country like Kenya, and showcases some of the most important ways in which these are being tackled at the grassroots level. From helping doctors in understaffed and poorly provisioned hospitals, to giving talks on health issues to village elders, to tree planting, to brick making, to visiting orphanages; Chase offers a very unique opportunity, helping volunteers to make a difference to the future of these communities, whilst adding to their own portfolio as they explore and become immersed in this fascinating culture. Chase Africa also offers volunteers a second option- a placement in one of our partner projects in Kenya for their desired length of stay. From 2 weeks to 12 months, Chase Africa provides the service of placing volunteers in one of our approved partner projects, finding local families as homestays or private accommodation for the duration of their stay. Our regional director based in Kenya will meet volunteers upon arrival and visit them regularly thereafter, to ensure the volunteers are enjoying their stay.
Highlights:
Volunteers Chase Africa is unique in combining volunteer projects with a tourist safari package. Not only will volunteers be able to work closely with and interact with some very rural communities, many of whom have never seen foreigners before; they will also have the opportunity to see the seventh wonder of the natural world- the wildebeest migration in the world famous Maasai Mara National Park. Combining so many different types of rewarding community work with travelling the length of the country, interacting with people of a different culture, makes for an unforgettable summer!
Qualifications:
Our main two month summer project is aimed at university students and graduates, looking for an exciting way to spend their summer vacation! We focus mainly upon public health issues and environmental issues and therefore medical, biology, geography and ecology students would really benefit. However we also address such topics as development issues, HIV/Aids stigma, grassroots project developments, social and economic issues affecting rural Kenya... the list goes on! So we really open the project to students of all subjects as we offer something for everyone, and an opportunity to gain an insight into all these different issues. Chase Africa also offers volunteers the opportunity to undertake their university dissertation research, in whatever chosen field. Chase Africa is looking for confident, motivated volunteers able to work well in a team, and willing to have a go at our many varied projects and activities.
