Description:
This project was born to give a little help to the local community by gathering volunteers and donations to help in the improvement of living conditions. These are examples of tasks to develop: * Brick-making * Work with artisans to design and construct buildings * Well-digging for fresh water provision, vegetable gardens and irrigation * Working with orphans and at creches * Administration help at the local hospital * Malaria education, action and prevention * Young people projects The locals are typically poor and needy. The main economic activities are fishing and farming for small crops.
Highlights:
This programme has a very flexible structure. There are different projects to develop with the community and every month there is a main mandatory project. Upon booking, you will be informed about what the main project is. During your induction you will have the opportunity to discuss the other tasks available, depending on what areas are in need to have work developed. How is the typical day? * You will start your day when the sun rises with a breakfast on the veranda looking at the Indian Ocean. Perhaps a quick swim in the ocean (if you feel like it), and then prepare and pack your lunch. * At 8:30 you will have your transportation to the main project location. * Around 11am you will have your lunch break. We suggest a venture for a walk around the local area to the Spazza shop to buy a cool drink. * Depending on the weather conditions, you will be picked up from work around 3 - 4 pm. * The evenings are free, so you have the opportunity to enjoy and take part of the most extra activities, such as surfing, snorkelling, kayaking, whale watching, scuba diving, off shore reefs or quad biking. * You can order a meal from the restaurant to eat at a candlelit table, venture to the bar, take a swim in the sea, or walk across the beach collecting shells. * Around 9pm, you will be most definitely exhausted and all you will feel like doing is go to bed and fall asleep rocked by the sound of waves.
Qualifications:
* Minimum age 18 yrs. No maximum age. * There are no specific skills required to participate in this programme, other than be mature, flexible, willingness to get involved and a good sense of humour. * Good spoken English is also required. A little knowledge of Portuguese are appreciated but not essential. * International volunteers welcome.

WAVA's Mission Statement: "WAVA" means Work & Volunteer Abroad. Our origins lie in a department created in 2006 at Twin Group, a prestigious provider of educational, training and employment opportunities for individuals from around the world.
Established in January 2010, we are a fresh, independent company, using the trading name WAVA and a brand new logo, inspired by the values of travel: opportunity, adventure, emotion, sharing, learning and seeing.
But we're not just about seeing. We're also about doing.
We specialise in offering life-changing opportunities to travellers for whom seeing is not enough. We offer three broad types of travelling experiences:
Volunteering on projects in developing countries
Internships in professional environments around the world
Seasonal paid working holidays in developed economies
We make these experiences possible through solid partnerships with highly reputable local providers.
