Description: Volunteer in South Africa on our Cheetah Conservation project.

This volunteer project aims to help in the conservation of the Cheetah in South Africa by helping out with the day to day care of the animals and helping to educate the local community and also foreigners.

The cheetah, the world's fastest land animal is now on the WWF endangered species list. This is due to threats like loss of habitat and human intrusion allied with loss of genetic variation amongst the Cheetah prides.

There are also a number of Anotolian Sheep dogs at the centre who you will also be looking after.

Only people who care, as informed volunteers, can save the African Cheetah from its extinction.

Cheetah Conservation Volunteer South Africa

Highlights: Before starting the volunteer work itself, you may need to know a bit more about this specific project and the African Cheetah. A small induction is given to all the volunteers, where you have time to rest, to get to know the project a bit more and have a town orientation.

The work will initially consist of:

* Preparation of food for the Cheetahs
* Taking care of the Anatolian dogs
* Hosting the project's guests, informing them about the project and the cheetahs in general
* Cleaning up the feeding area and the holding enclosures
* Depending on your involvement and progress, after 2 weeks you may be introduced to the cheetahs. If you listen to the rangers and learn what they are teaching you and have a mature attitude towards the animals you will be granted access. The amount of time that you will spend with the cheetahs depends on the relationship that you build with each of them.

You are expected to work 7 to 8 hours a day and you get 2 free days per week.

Qualifications:
* Minimum age: 18 years old
* A high level of English.
* Since you will be working with the public, as well as the animals, you need to be an outgoing and enthusiastic person with a great sense of humour and a genuine compassion for animal welfare.
* International volunteers are welcome.
