Description:
The HHS Chinese New Year Program is an amazing chance to spend two weeks in China during its most important traditional holiday. The program, which will start in January or February, includes a four-day tour of Beijing followed by 6 days in the city of Chongqing, Wuhan, Guangzhou. The program will end with 3 days staying with a Chinese homestay family, where you will get to experience first-hand how Chinese people really celebrate the Lunar New Year. During your two week trip in China, you will see all of the famous sightseeing spots in two great cities, while also participating in fun, interactive workshops that teach you about the traditional and modern customs of the Lunar New Year.
Highlights:
Your first stop will be Beijing, where you will: - Learn how to make "duilian," the red scrolls with poetry couplets written on them that are hung on doors and gates all over China, make (and enjoy!) moon cakes, and learn about different traditional gods and customs associated with Chinese New Year - After Beijing, you'll spend a few days in one of the following cities: * Guangzhou: watch a dragon/lion dance, practice saying New Year expressions in Cantonese and experience southern China * Chongqing: learn about traditional and modern gift giving, visit the great pandas, and eat Sichuan style snacks and spicy dishes * Wuhan: learn about the Chinese zodiac as well as how to draw the character for the animal of the upcoming year - Before you head home, you will experience a New Year's Homestay Celebration - During the last part of your trip, you will spend a few days living with a Chinese homestay family. With your homestay family you will participate in cooking a traditional New Year's meal, learn how to make dumplings, experience New Year's visits, and set off fireworks. You'll be personally involved in an exciting Chinese New Year celebration.
