Hill Tribe Adventure Thailand

Highlights: * Day 1: Bangkok - arrival transfer
Arrival and joint-transfer to your accommodation. An experienced guide will meet you at the airport and will provide you with some useful tips for exploring the city and give you some ideas of what you could do on your tour.

* Day 2: Bangkok - a walking tour - night train to Chiang Mai
Today is a tour on foot. The aim is to ensure that you see as much as possible of the everyday life of Bangkok and its people; and what better way to do that than to combine your walk with as many different modes of public transport as possible. Stops on the tour will normally include some interesting temples, a flower market and Little India or Chinatown. Depart Bangkok in the evening to Chiang Mai by second-class overnight train with air-conditioned sleeping berths.

* Day 3: Chiang Mai - an orientation tour
After settling yourself into your hotel take a walking tour around the old city. There is always something of interest for everybody to see; spectacular temples, the gastronomic delights offered by the local food vendors, fantastic markets and shopping, etc.

* Day 4: Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai
Take a public air-conditioned bus to Chiang Rai. After checking into your hotel, have a day free to explore the small town by yourself.

* Days 5-25: Community services with local NGOs
Now it is time for you get off the tourist track and join the enthusiastic people who devotedly give their hearts to making the hill-tribe villages develop in the right direction for the benefit of all the inhabitants. The list of activities that you can take part in include teaching English (in average 3 times a week), editing English texts, reports for the foundation, writing articles, IT, VDO presentations, websites, helping to develop the Virtual Hill-tribe Museum program and joining various work projects undertaken by the foundation and villagers. Any creative ideas to improve the projects and the villages are always warmly welcomed.

The program also includes sightseeing to visit Chiang Rai town, its night bazaar, the White Temple, waterfalls and 3-day trekking with home stay experience in hill-tribe villages such as Akha and Lahu tribes.
The program includes meals on full board basis, however you will need to do your own cooking, together with your team. Accommodation is basic in volunteer houses, dormitory style and separate for men and women.

* Day 26: Chiang Rai - night bus to Bangkok
After saying farewell to your team, you will return to Bangkok by public overnight bus. If you wish to return to Chiang Mai or spend more time in the north or go direct to any beach destination please let us know. We can alter these final arrangements to meet your wishes.

* Day 27: Bangkok
You will arrive in Bangkok early in the morning but as the exact arrival time is uncertain you will need to take taxi by yourself to your accommodation in Bangkok. A room is reserved for early check in. The rest of the day is at leisure.

* Day 28: Bangkok - departure transfer
Spend this last free day for shopping or exploring more of Bangkok on your own. Then transfer to the airport for flight home.
