Description:
This is a unique volunteer opportunity filled with cultural exchange and learning. Teens will spend one week at a Hawaiian retreat with their camp buddies (homeless children) helping them to learn life skills and work hands on with projects, sports, arts, and more. Then the teens will spend a week with their buddies at a day camp. During this time the evenings will be filled with cultural lessons and activities to help the teens present an authentic luau for their camp buddies. The third week, teens will fly to Oahu for more cultural understanding, tours of famous places as well as the secluded "locals only" hangouts. Teens will also have surfing lessons from the pipeline champion and music lessons from our famous local bands. Returning to the Big Island for the final week will include more sightseeing tours, snorkel cruise, hiking the volcano and more native activities. Qualifications:
* Teens must be enrolled in the 10th-12th grade and hold a 3.5 gpa in order to qualify for the cultural scholarship award. We have two left and would need applications in by Friday. * Teens must love working with children, be openminded and willing to learn new cultures.
