Black Rhino & Elephant Conservation
Zimbabwe
- Other Cities in Zimbabwe:
Victoria Falls
Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: All year
Description:
Volunteers will live in close contact with black rhino, elephants, buffalo & all the other species of wild animals on the 10,000 acre conservancy. Come witness incredible animal relationships, hear their sounds, record vital information, & gain an appreciation of simplicity from the surrounding rural communities.
Highlights:
During the late 80's, the peak of rhino-poaching in Southern Africa, the Dept. of National Parks & Wildlife moved the remaining 120 black rhino from the National Parks into conservancies. Since then, breeding has been successful. Calves, once weaned, are monitored & released back into the national parks. This has increased the numbers tremendously, but the work continues. Optional Add-ons: Project Excursions - Visit Antelope Park, a lion breeding & rehabilitation program, Hwange National Park or Victoria Falls. 3-Day Tour in Antelope Park - Visit the world's first lion rehabilitation & release into the wild program. Ride elephants; go game viewing on horseback, on foot or in a vehicle; relax on a boat ride; canoe or fish. 6-Day Antelope Park, Miombo, & Victoria Falls Package - Go white water rafting or bungee jump 111 m. off the Victoria Falls Bridge! 10-Day Sightseeing Package - This comprehensive package includes visits to Victoria Falls, Camp Sita Tunga, the Okavenga Delta, as well as Zimbabwe & Botswana game reserves. Enjoy a rhino walk, game drive & cave painting tour. Visit Victoria Falls where you can bungee jump, white water raft, visit the falls, or gorge swing. Get up close & personal with a herd of elephant, buffalo, a pride of lion, pack of hyena & many more at Hwange National Park.
