African Cheetah Rehabilitation
South Africa
- Other Cities in South Africa:
Johannesburg
Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: All year
Description:
Work with the captive-bred cheetahs began in 2001, & during the past three years, 16 cheetahs have been bred & raised with 100% success. Due to the rapidly declining numbers of cheetah in the wild, we have realized that further action needs to be taken to address this problem. The center aims to do this with a three-phase project, which will see cheetahs released into managed environments closer to their natural habitat.
Highlights:
Volunteers will be introduced to the fascinating world of African wildlife as well as the incredible cheetah, & work in all aspects of reserve management. They will also be able to work on the reintroduction project. Volunteers will play a vital role in raising & teaching cheetahs (from the age of three months) to prepare them to hunt for themselves, so the goal of increasing the numbers of free-roaming cheetahs can be realized. Optional Pre/Post-Project Tours: 5-Day Motobo, Victoria Falls & Hwange Package - Enjoy a rhino walk, game drive & cave painting tour. Visit Victoria Falls where you can bungee jump, white water raft, visit the falls, or gorge swing. Get up close & personal with a herd of elephant, buffalo, a pride of lion, pack of hyena & many more at Hwange National Park. 2-3 Day Pilanesberg Park Safari Package - Safari drives, safe hiking trails, huge walk-in aviaries, & optional fight over the park in a hot-air balloon. Johannesburg Day Tours - An escorted trip to Soweto will offer your team an insightful view into township life in South Africa. Other popular Johannesburg day tours include a game drive in the Pilanesburg Game Reserve (home to the big five), or a tour of Pretoria, known as the Jacaranda City.
