  • Other Cities in Mozambique:
  • Vilanculos

Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: All year

Description: Dolphins, like many sea creatures, are threatened due to pollution & the increase of global port & harbor development. Dolphin numbers have declined significantly in the last 5 decades. Based in the beach village of Ponto d'Ouro, volunteers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the captivating local Afro-Portuguese culture & assist with the study of marine life & dolphins.

Dolphin & Turtle Research

Highlights: This project aims to monitor bottle nosed dolphin numbers & behavior, loggerhead turtle nesting activity, & coral reef condition in order to make recommendations for improving the conservation of marine biodiversity. It involves field data collection (via beach walks, boat surveys, swims & dives), & assistance with tourist education.

* Optional Project Excursions:
Visit Vilanculos & Inhassoro two intriguing towns in the Northern provinces of the country. They form the gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago. Also, see the islands of Benguera, Margeruqe & Bazaruto - a World Heritage Site & a Dugong conservation area.
