Borneo 8 Week Overland, Experiences, Jungle, Voluntary Work and Orangutans

  Malaysia
  • Other Cities in Malaysia:
  • Borneo

Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks and 5-8 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: 8 weeks

Description: The program is a combination of 4 weeks adventure and 4 weeks voluntary work in a lovely village with English teaching and excursions of different kinds. It is also a possibility to prolong your stay with 4 weeks of voluntary work in Lok Kawi National Park. Adventure in Borneo offers you a little bit of everything: culture, tribes, hot springs, primary jungle, trekking, rafting, mountain climbing, and not least fellowship. The group travels all around on the Malaysian part of the island and experiences mountains, waterfalls, wetlands, and orangutans.

Highlights: There is more than enough adventure during this journey of a lifetime which gives you both trekking, river rafting, mountain climbing in a very untraditional way, canyoning in the jungle, and survival technique lessons. Besides all this there are always rich possibilities in the big cities of doing more extreme adventures such as paragliding, bungy jump, parachute, and divers certificate. We dare you - move your limits - or break them down!

The voluntary work takes place in Kampong Langsat in the Papar district where you will be living with our partner close to the rain forest surrounded by small villages. Here you have the opportunity to help the locals by teaching them English. Your main focus will be on the children, however, some of the older inhabitants will also have an interest in learning the language.

A big part of you job will be to motivate the children to learn e.g. through games, songs, dancing, art, or whatever else you might think of. Only the imagination sets boundaries when your trying to get children to learn as much as possible.

Besides, you can help the village by teaching them in areas which they have only little knowledge about. First of all you might be able to teach them about personal hygiene and perhaps also some of the survival skills which you learned in the jungle.

During the voluntary work you will have parties, dinners, and meetings to make sure that everybody has the best outcome of your hard efforts. At the same time this is a great way to relax and talk to the older inhabitants. You will also have trekking excursions into the jungle to further expand your knowledge and widen your horizon. Among much else you will see the world's biggest flower, the rich wild life of Borneo, and amazing birds!
