India : 2-3 Months Travel, Adventure and Voluntary Work
India
- Other Cities in India:
Udaipur
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks and 5-8 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: 2-3 months
Description:
The programme combines 4 weeks travel and 4/8 weeks voluntary work. The Northern part of India offers the participants a wide range of experiences such as, the magnificent tomb of Taj Mahal, sacrificial ceremonies at the banks of River Ganges, national parks, castles in the desert and much more. In between these exciting adventures the participants have classes in various subjects: Hindu, religion, music, history, art and yoga. Excursions to schools, children's homes and other places of interest is also a part of the experience. The voluntary work takes place in a small village close to Udaipur in Rajasthan. You get your hands full during the eight weeks. You will be participating in a NGO project where the schools have great need for education. A good educational background is a solid foundation for teaching and helping in the small villages.
Highlights:
You will be volunteering in the field of education where you will be helping teachers in primary schools. The general pattern is to work five days a week for approximately three to four hours per day. Work schedules will generally be fixed and regular but changes may occur, especially during the holiday season. While we are committed to support you throughout your volunteer placement and will assist whenever necessary, our ability to offer support will be dependant on your engagement, initiative and communication. Your assistance would not only ease the over worked teachers but it would also add to the educational experience of the children. Teaching provides you with an opportunity to develop your skills in a very different environment. Class size varies in India. Sometimes a single teacher has to manage a mass of students. So volunteers can lessen the workload on a teacher by teaching or playing with the students. This also provides children a new and richer experience in learning. During the volunteer work you will have time for other activities. You can take part in our workshops or go sightseeing. There is also a weekend excursion in the middle of the 8-week volunteer programme to Jaisalmer and Jodphur. The workshops are generally held during the evenings and the subjects are: Hindi, yoga, cooking and henna painting. While all of the workshops are optional, most volunteers find that they provide easy and fun ways to relax after work and learn something about Indian culture. Volunteering in India can be filled with challenges. As challenges are part of the experience, overcoming them will provide you with the sense of accomplishment at the same time. We will work hard to ensure that your volunteer placement isn't just about struggle and success. Though you will be working in extremely low resource communities, we will provide you with clean, comfortable accommodation and healthy hygienic food.
