Description:
Our programs are for exceptional young people who are ready to enthusiastically embrace today's challenges and improve our world. Our 2010 summer program will develop Environmental Leadership in the context of a field-based program at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont. You may be one of twelve American students to work with twelve Chinese students to explore the Champlain Valley and Green Mountains with field scientists. You will visit businesses and manufacturing plants, help remove invasive species, tour the State House with politicians, and learn about the role of state government in conservation. You will work with a Chinese partner to address a current environmental challenge in the region and prepare a public exhibit of your work. All high school students are welcome to apply. Preference will be given to those completing their freshman or sophomore year. Participants will be invited to join our 2011 summer expedition to South China. In 2011, The Affiliated High School of South China Normal University (Hua Shi Fu Zhong- HSFZ), Guangzhou, China, will design a program for GATP that develops Environmental Leadership in the context of field activities in South China. You will see a part of China through a Chinese lens with Chinese friends that you met in 2010. This is not the China that a tourist sees. The program is designed to forge enduring relationships among our American and Chinese participants and encourage you to engage in civic and environmental leadership in a world where environmental challenges exist on both local and global scales.
