Description:
We operate an Organic/ Permaculture Farm located in the transition forest on the mid coast of Ecuador. It combines alternatives like solar power, biogas, permaculture and organic farming. The farm works in Education and receives community farmers groups, students, teachers and children who come to learn about sustainable farming and to receive environmental education. The farm coordinates an environmental primary school in the community. It is a working farm which aims at self sufficiency and sales of organic produce. This project was important in the creation of Bahia ecocity and islinked with many ecoprojects in the ecocity. Cost: USD 350 per month includes food and lodgings. This project is part of Ecoteer - the solution to travel and volunteering on a shoestring Ecoteer is a unique volunteer opportunities agency - offering a directory of cheap volunteer work opportunities, volunteer jobs abroad and working holidays. Our volunteer opportunities are cheap because we have eliminated the middleman slashing the price to volunteer abroad for gapyears, careerbreaks and working holidays. Ecoteer is leading the way in a new type of volunteer work opportunities abroad and is changing the volunteer and working holiday industry back to what it used to be benefiting both the volunteer and the volunteer project. We have other opportunities in ecotourism, conservation, humanitarian aid and teaching in other 50 countries. Role of Volunteer Regular Volunteering - Hands on help on the farm. Volunteer Training Course - For those who want a to learn more about organic farming, Permaculture and other methods. Areas of Work for volunteers: Volunteers participate in general activities, related to agriculture, education and visits, and have as similar timetable as the family and other workers on the farm. Some of the activities will include: 1. nursery work, sowing seeds, filling bags, pricking out. 2. reforestation work, planting, weeding, mulching, staking, pruning. 3. creation and maintenance of vegetable gardens. 4. compost making. 6. planting, harvesting crops. 7. work in the environmental school, ( see below and in the 'our projects' section of the web page ) maintenance or giving classes English, art, sport 8. help in the preparation of food ( especially if you are interested to learn about typical food) 9. making banana circles, simple construction, artwork, translating, preparation of info and materials for the school, preparation for groups of visitors ( groups of farmers from different parts of the country sometimes stay over night), painting, help in feeding and caring for the animals, feeding worms and separating worms from the humus.etc. The Environmental School Rural education is very poor and most teachers only work 3 -4 days a week. In 1993 with community participation the environmental primary school was created. The aim of the school was to provide not only a more creative, practical education than in most rural schools but to teach environmental education. The school was built with natural materials donated by the parents. It has been running successfully since 1993 supported by the parents and the farm with help from tourists, friends, family and volunteers.
