Description:
Based in the town of Moshi, at the base of Mt Kilimanjaro, for the first week of this trip you will be caring and helping to educate the children of the local community. You can practise your teaching skills and any sports skills that you may have with these very eager to learn youngsters! The smiles on their faces and their enthusiasm will make all your hard work well worth it! After being run ragged by the kids you can then head off for an amazing week including a night with the Masai, walking in the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro and a safari in the world famous N'gorongoro crater. Only got 2 weeks to spare but want to see a bit of everything East Africa has to offer - this is the trip for you! Project details and why it needs volunteers: You will be working with a number of orphanages, nurseries and kindergartens in Moshi with children from disadvantaged backgrounds. These projects involve working with young children, generally from the ages of 3 to 6 years old, and activities range greatly day by day! All too often parents cannot afford to take care of their children, especially if they are faced with a combination of poverty and HIV/AIDS. This is the reason why there are so many street children and orphans in Africa. By assisting at these projects you are helping to educate and entertain children who may not receive care and attention elsewhere. *Day 1: Arrival into Moshi, Tanzania You will be met at the airport on the arrival day and transfer to the volunteer accommodation. You will have the evening to rest and relax after your long flight. Evening meal included. *Day 2: Orientation After breakfast you will have an orientation about life in Tanzania and learn more about your volunteer project and what you will be getting up to! Breakfast and evening meal included. Overnight in the volunteer house. *Days 3 to 7: Volunteering Today you will start work at your project so make sure that you know plenty of songs to sing, have lots of enthusiasm and be prepared for lots of smiles! You will be working with children from disadvantaged backgrounds in a nursery, kindergarten or an orphanage which have been set up to prepare children for primary school and to provide extra care that their parents are unable to provide. You will be providing general care and assistance to the children as well as practising your teaching English skills, if you have any sports skills too then that is even better! Breakfast and evening meal included. Overnight in the volunteer house. *Day 8 to 9: Free time After your hard work with the children you will have the weekend to relax and to explore the town of Moshi and get to know the locals. If you would like to go further afield the lively town of Arusha is not far away where you can hang out with your new found friends, or you may just want to relax and get your strength back for the week ahead. Breakfast and evening meal included. Overnight in the volunteer house. *Day 10: Machame - Kilimanjaro Forest trek Today you will have a trek around the lush wilderness at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, do not forget to bring your walking boots with you, but do not worry it won`t be too strenuous! Breakfast, boxed lunch and evening meal included. Overnight at the volunteer house. *Day 11: Transfer to Masai village Today you will drive to the Masai village where you will be spending an unforgettable night among the Masai. The drive will take about 3 to 4 hours so you may like to take some snacks with you. You will meet the Masai on arrival and learn about their way of life. You will also see the Masai boma (mud hut) where you will be spending the night, sleeping on a cow skin bed, what a tale to tell back home! Be prepared for a real night of living like a Masai! It may get a little cold so remember to take some warm clothes with you! Breakfast, lunch and evening included. Overnight in a Masai Boma. *Day 12: Lake Manyara National Park You will spend today at Lake Manyara National Park where you will encounter elephants, giraffe, buffalo, wildebeest and hippos as well as lots of water animals. Keep an eye out for the tree climbing lions too! There is also a vast lake which attracts wide flocks of pink flamingoes. Breakfast, lunch and evening meal included. Overnight in hotel in Karatu. *Day 13: N'Gorongoro Crater After an early start you will have a 30 to 40 minute drive to the N'Gorongoro Crater where you will be able to witness lions, gazelles, antelopes and flamingoes living in the wild.
