Quebec City is a true four-season city offering colourful spring blossoms , lazy summer days beside the river, brilliant fall colours and the world famous winter carnival. Add to this a 400 year old history and some of the most stunning and important 17th century architecture in North America and you have an amazing and unique place to learn French! Declared a Humanity World Heritage location by UNESCO, Quebec City is the destination for thousands of tourists every year. It is known for its relaxed living, friendly people and delicious local cuisine. The School: The Quebec City Teen Homestay Program takes place in the centre of the city in a converted convent that is now a private high school. The campus is right beside the lush Plains of Abraham, the scene of the 1759 battle between France and Britain and now one of the cities most beautiful and popular parks. The school is an easy 15 minute walk to the old town (Vieux Quebec) where you'll want to spend hours exploring the many cobbledl alleyways, quaint cafes and stylish boutiques. The school facilities include: * Student lounges * Computer rooms (with free internet access) * Cafeteria with dining hall * Coffee shop with outdoor terrace * Classrooms * Indoor gymnasium with basketball courts * Playing fields * Academic Program The academic program consists of 15 hours of French lessons per week which are held Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 11:45pm. Students will develop their skills in listening, speaking, writing, reading, conversation and grammar. All learning materials are provided and classrooms are equipped with TV and Audio equipment to enhance teaching methods. Cultural & Activity Program: Each week students enjoy a full program of cultural activities and excursions as well as sports and leisure activities, both on campus and off. Full-day excursions to places of interest in and around Quebec City take place every Saturday. Evenings include at least two off campus activities per week including the cinema, a disco, talent night, etc. View our sample weekly schedule for more information. Teachers & Monitors: All teachers are fully qualified to teach French as a second language. They plan comprehensive and engaging lessons that integrate speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar into each class. Materials are relevant to and suitable for younger learners and include current event articles, films, songs, fashion and other pop culture tools. Accommodation: Accommodation is a single room in a homestay and includes 3 meals per day. The family may host one other student from the same program but the school will ensure that there is a good cultural mix of students in the house. Accommodation is no more than 45 minutes door-to-door via public transit. You will be provided with a bus pass upon arrival at the school.
