Construction Volunteer Project in India
India
- Other Cities in India:
Rural Areas
Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: Visit our website for upcoming start dates
Description:
Each year GVI offers a great opportunity to make a real difference in a short amount of time. As well as working alongside teams of enthusiastic volunteers, you will enjoy the culture and warmth of the local communities. This programme focuses on repairing, renovating and developing our partners infrastructures in the field. The short term group projects put together teams of like-minded volunteers for a few weeks at a time to come out and help us improve our project partners facilities, be it the schools we work in, the local health clinic, orphanages, child care centres, sports field, arts centre or community centre. The project also offers volunteers the opportunity to explore the local area and visit the famous Taj Mahal. Volunteer teams will make invaluable contributions to local communities' livelihoods, infrastructures, education facilities and health care facilities. The communities that the organization works with are some of the poorest in the region and despite Government concern, the schools and child care centres in the villages are not well maintained. By devoting their time, energy and expertise, the participants, not only maintain the existing buildings but also develop new facilities around them, which would otherwise be difficult for the communities to achieve single-handedly.
Highlights:
* Renovating and painting schools * Building toilets * Developing and refurbishing sports fields * Helping the poor in constructing houses * Cleaning the village area * Planting trees * Developing garbage facilities * Learning Hindi language * Participating in health campaigns * Getting involved in workshops * Admiring the Arravali mountains * Enjoying folk dancing and puppet shows * Exploring the jungle and tracking tigers * Visiting majestic forts in Rajasthan * Appreciating the royal palaces
Qualifications:
* Skills Required: No skills are required though volunteers practiced in the arts, woodwork, decorating, building, landscaping, plumbing etc are most welcome. You will be working alongside GVI project managers and local craftsmen to ensure high level of safety, quality and enjoyment. * Training and Qualifications: An orientation is arranged enlightening the volunteers about the place, work and people. In addition to this, Hindi classes are held for all the volunteers, so that they can learn, common Hindi words in order to communicate within the community.
