South Africa Wildlife Conservation Program
South Africa
Dates: Please visit the GVI website for upcoming start dates.
Description:
An African safari adventure with a big difference! Join a small team working deep within the African bush and assist Global Vision International's research scientists with critical conservation projects. You will also undergo field guide training including learning such skills as wildlife identification and tracking. Join this GVI program for a great chance to get up close with famous African animals such as leopards, elephants and wild dogs, while also learning about this unique habitat. * How this program makes a difference: As land in this fast developing country comes under more and more pressure from all quarters, enclosed private game reserves such as Venetia may be the future of wildlife conservation in South Africa. Massive tracts of government-owned land, such as National Parks and wilderness areas are no longer available for converting to conservation land. Furthermore, plans are afoot for fences to be dropped between Venetia and the neighboring Mapungubwe National Park and World heritage Site, that would effectively double the size of the national park. So the more data that can be collected, on predator behavior and spatial utilization, before the fences come down the better.
Highlights:
* Unique African bush adventure * Master radio telemetry techniques * Learn basic field guiding skills * Take the ranger's reptile course * Track animals through the bush * Get acquainted with BIG GAME * See lions, cheetahs, elephants and rhinos * FGASA qualified field staff
