Description:
The Rainforest Habitat is a wildlife park of the future and world leader in mixed immersion exhibits. It is situated in Port Douglas, Tropical North Queensland, Australia, on eight acres of land that has been recreated to provide a window into our natural environment. Visitors can wander through three different and unique environments that depict numerous species of the surrounding rainforest, wetlands, and grasslands. The Wetlands The Wetlands depicts the amazing diversity of our natural wetlands that are important fringing areas and provides a link to many ecosystems. An array of wading birds can be viewed foraging for fish in waterways beneath the boardwalks. The restaurant is within the Wetlands environment where guests can enjoy Breakfast with the Birds and Lunch with the Lorikeets whilst enjoying the cacophony of sounds and colours of wildlife. The Rainforest Representing the Wet Tropics rainforest environments where native species such as the Southern Cassowary, Boyds Forest Dragon and colourful Eclectus parrots can be viewed in a natural setting. Boardwalks meander along the forest floor to the rainforest canopy. The Grasslands This open-air exhibit portrays both inland and coastal plains. Here you can interact with Queenslands largest range of kangaroos and wallabies from the statuesque Eastern Grey Kangaroo and endangered Lumholtzs Tree Kangaroo to the petite Parma Wallaby. Boardwalks overlook lagoons where both Estuarine and Freshwater crocodiles lurk beneath murky waters or bask on the sunlit banks.
