Rainforestation Nature Park

  Australia
  • Queensland:
  • Cairns,  Queensland

Description: At the award-winning Rainforestation Nature Park, you'll get to experience indigenous culture, Australian native wildlife and World Heritage listed rainforest all on one site. Set on 100 acres (40 hectares) in the midst of World Heritage rainforest, this unique tourist attraction is situated five minutes from Kuranda Village, and half an hour by coach from Cairns in Tropical North Queensland.

Rainforestation has three main attractions:

    * Army Duck Rainforest Tour (with Tropical Fruit Orchard)
    * Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience
    * Koala & Wildlife Park

Experience the tropical rainforest from a totally unique perspective aboard an amphibious World War II Army Duck (officially spelt DUKW). Rainforestation has 11 of these historical vehicles, which hold up to 30 passengers and have 6 wheel drive, propeller and rudder.

As you traverse part of the property on your unforgettable 45 minute rainforest tour, your knowledgeable Duck Captain / Guide will point out and explain ferns, orchids, strangler figs and stinging trees, as well as birds such as the Azure Kingfisher and a host of other animals and reptiles.

As you splash into the lake, be sure to smile as an automatic digital photo is taken. These are available for purchase at the Tropical Treats Juice Bar when you disembark.

With propeller engaged, your Army Duck cruises up to the water's edge whilst turtles, fish and eels swim up close. Keep an eye out for water dragons or pythons sunbaking or slithering up trees.

Commentary sheets available in 14 languages. Group departures by request.

Highlights: Educational Programmes & Group Activities:

Rainforestation can provide fantastic educational, enjoyable and environmentally friendly activities for all types of pre-booked groups.

Imagine learning about our precious environment and how to preserve our wildlife while traveling through World Heritage rainforest on an authentic amphibious Army Duck, or share a Dreamtime Experience with our Pamagirri Aboriginal dance troupe.

Our Koala & Wildlife Park also runs educational programmes promoting awareness of Australian culture and conservation issues; and encouraging appreciation for our native wildlife and surrounding environment. Activities include interactive wildlife experiences and guided behind-the-scenes tours.

We also offer exclusive activities for educational groups, such as:

    * Tree Planting - The perfect opportunity to contribute to our Reforestation Program. Add your groups' name to our Honour Board and become part of this Eco Experience.
    * Boomerang Painting - Use traditional ochre paints to decorate a boomerang.
    * Aboriginal Animal Tracks - Try your hand at imitating the tracks left by some of Australia's native animals.
    * Face Painting - Have your face painted with ochre in the traditional manner by an Aboriginal guide.
    * Sugar Cane Tasting - Taste the raw cane before it commences its journey to the mill (Seasonal: June to Dec).

Our educational programmes include specially designed worksheets for primary school through to high school with content and activities closely linked to curriculum outcomes. Itineraries to suit your specialized needs can be arranged upon request.
