Description:
Paddle through the pristine water of the fjords of Pumalin National Park in Chilean Patagonia on this spectacular 6 day Sea Kayaking trip. Pumalin National Park in Patagonia, Chile is one of the undiscovered natural beauties of Patagonia. It is host to dolphins, sea lions, penguins, mountain lions and the massive Alerce trees, which are larger than redwoods and live for 3,000 (yes, three thousand!) years old. On this trip you will also relax in ancient hot springs tubs carved into the rock by the native inhabitants. North American, Douglas Tompkins, was so impressed with this area that, in 1991, he bought 42,000 acres of evergreen temperate rain forest to protect it from possible exploitation. A further 700,000 acres has since been added to for the present day park, which enjoys national protection from the Chilean government. Conservation is of paramount importance in this area. The impact of man is reduced by innovative measures. For example, small farms with productive activities such as animal husbandry, cheese making, eco-tourism, wool handicrafts and organic gardens are simultaneously park stations and visitor information centers.

Volunteer South America's Mission Statement: Volunteer South America is dedicated to identifying volunteer positions with small to medium size local organisations in South America. We work with responsible non-profit organisations that offer structured volunteering work in properly managed volunteer programs. These organisations are doing good work, but really need your help. Most do not have the out reach to find volunteers like you and lack the resources of larger multi-lateral organisations to attract project funds.
