Highlights:
The Manu Learning Centre (MLC) is a sustainable capacity building and research facility within the Peruvian Amazon. The MLC offers a variety of comfortable accommodation spaces, specially designed for relaxation and activity. It is one of the most important sites in the Manu region, hosting programs for foreign and national universities, college professors, independent travelers and world wide government agencies. The MLC and its surrounding lands lie in the Manu Biosphere Reserve, (MBR) near Cusco in the South of Peru. Established in 1977, the reserve forms part of the Vilcabamba Amboro Conservation Corridor, which runs from Machu Picchu in Peru, to Amboro in central Bolivia. The importance of the MBR was officially recognized in 1987 when it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It achieved this largely because of its renown as an area of abundant wildlife. Manu is one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world. Habitats can range from dry coastal deserts in the west, to the volcanic central range of the Andes, to lush Amazonian rainforests in the east. Just inside Manu National Park there are over 20,000 plant varieties, 1,400 butterfly species, 1,000 exotic bird specimens, and a vast numbers of amphibians, insects, and reptiles species, many of which have yet been documented. Let CREES Expeditions help to guide your way through this amazing part of the world. CREES Expeditions is a leader in conservation of tropical ecosystems through education and the development of sustainable resource solutions for local communities of the Manu Amazon Rainforest. Crees Expeditions's Mission Statement: Committed to protection of the balance of life in the Peruvian Rainforest, our aim is to bring economic, social and environmental harmony to the Manu region using sustainable practice. We strive to develop and initiate education, research, projects and initiatives that:
" Attain a greater understanding of the various Flora and Fauna found within the Manu Biosphere Reserve
" Provide support for local research
" Work closely with the local indigenous communities to promote knowledge sharing and natural resource management.
Our highly motivating and engaging volunteer program makes volunteers a partner in positive change: directly benefiting local communities, the environment and the long-term conservation of the Amazon. Our program combines training, challenging work and a great adventure making it a brilliantly unique and rewarding way to visit and actively understand more about the rainforest, its people and its conservation needs.
