Description: Help out for a short time on GVI's Teaching English program for Secondary School children in Guatemala. This specially designed short term project gives volunteers with little time the opportunity to make a real difference by working on this vital program. The primary goal is to break the long term program into smaller workshops, allowing children more one-on-one face time and personal attention while you help them practice what they have been taught on the existing longer term program. These short term workshops also help the students to become accustomed to different accents. As a volunteer on this project you will live in the colonial town of Antigua and volunteer in the indigenous communities of the surrounding area.

How this program makes a difference:

This GVI project in Guatemala makes a huge difference to the children as English is a valuable skill to have. The English they learn in school is often from a Guatemalan teacher who has no grasp of the English language, and is teaching from a book. These GVI projects focus on teenagers, so the shorter timescale of the volunteer's involvement has a less psychological effect on the children and allows them to interact with a wide range of English speakers.
