Better In Belize - Eco-village/Eco-school/Mayan Archeological site
Belize
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: Ongoing
Description:
Join a team of eco-enthusiasts in a project to build an ecovillage community in the rainforest. Build an eco-school of high-school level curriculum, create permaculture organic gardens, and help excavate a Mayan mound. These sub-projects are all part of the ecovillage development on 130 acres of land in Belize's Vaca Forest reserve, located 10.5 miles southeast of the town of Benque Viejo Del Carmen along the Macal River. We have a Mayan mound onsite and some Mayan walls that need excavating, we have a few milpas of fruit trees which need to be tended to and expanded into a true permaculture sustainable organic farm, and we have an area where we will be building an eco-school of high school level curriculum with added training in ecology/eco-technologies (solar, wind, hydro, permaculture, etc..) Although the volunteering projects will require a lot of work, we plan to make it a fun experience for all who get involved. On weekends we can help arrange for you to see some of the many other great things Belize has to offer (Mayan sites, snorkeling, diving, caving, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, sandy beaches, etc..).
