Explore Southern Africa
South Africa
Dates: Visit our website for upcoming start dates
Description:
Learn about conservation in some of the most fantastic wildlife locations on Earth and help provide an education for underprivileged children in South Africa. Join GVI and explore Southern Africa. You will begin by spending 5 weeks on a wildlife research expedition in the Limpopo province of South Africa, then you will move to a township outside Cape Town where you will assist at care centers or schools for 4 weeks. Finally you will journey to Namibia where you will spend 2 weeks protecting and tracking the mysterious desert elephant. * How this program makes a difference: Each of these projects makes a difference in its own way. On the research expedition in South Africa you will collect vital data used to determine predators impact on prey populations, social structures, genetics and spatial movement. In Cape Town you will help to educate young children living in poverty. In Namibia your efforts will help build walls that protect community windmills while also allowing the elephants to drink.
Highlights:
* Track and observe big game such as lions and elephants * Work alongside qualified guides * Master radio telemetry techniques * Sleep out under the African stars * Visit areas no other tourists can visit * See Table Mountain
Qualifications:
No special training or qualifications are required as you will receive training in the field.
