Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: Year round - starts every Friday
Description:
Join a team of like-minded volunteers and enjoy unique experiences as you travel from project to project with Conservation Volunteers! Each week, we'll take you to a new site for a new conservation project - typical activities include tree planting, track construction, weed control, wildlife or flora surveys, and heritage protection. Our Team Leader will provide all the on-site skills training you need, and you'll enjoy being part of a team including volunteers from a range of backgrounds - our program is open to people from all over the world! We are a not-for-profit and non-political organisation - we're about direct action to help protect, preserve and restore our beautiful environment. You'll enjoy the satisfaction of completing practical conservation tasks, making friends, and seeing plenty of places off the beaten track around Australia. Our projects take place in urban, rural and remote areas, all year round - just pick a start date (any Friday) and a starting location from any of our 23 offices. When you arrive, we'll assign you to your projects and you'll meet your fellow volunteers along with our staff. Our staff will show you what to do, and how to do it safely.
Highlights:
We really do go to the best places, including National Parks, World Heritage areas, beaches and islands, outback and urban. You'll be with a Team Leader, who can interpret the landscape for you and show you the local wildlife, and we'll provide you with a Wildlife Guidebook to help you start spotting birds and animals yourself. Being part of a team is a huge highlight of our program, and many volunteers make friends for life around the world as a result of the intense experiences they share while volunteering.
Qualifications:
Volunteers should be reasonably fit and in good health - volunteers must declare any pre-existing medical conditions, allergies or injuries at the time of booking. Volunteers must be aged 18+ except if they are part of a school group booked on a tailored program. Volunteers must be prepared to live and volunteer as a member of a team.
