Volunteer Travel to Teach in Southern Africa for 12 Weeks
South Africa
Swaziland
Dates: Visit our website for upcoming start dates
Description:
Volunteer in both Swaziland and South Africa on this three-month program which combines two popular community projects and three adventure trips. Volunteers will begin their trip in Swaziland where you will stay for the first 6 weeks. During this time you will enjoy two side trips, one to Kruger National Park, South Africa's largest game reserve, where you will be on look out for the Big Five and spend your evenings cooking on an open fire and camping under the African skies. A further week will be spent exploring the coast of Mozambique, where you will visit local markets, enjoy water sports and snorkel with whale sharks. In your 7th week you will enjoy a week-long guided trip down the coast of South Africa, taking in the Wild Coast and the Garden Route before arriving in Cape Town, where you will spend the remaining 5 weeks volunteering. In South Africa volunteers will work at Creches or child care centers helping to teach and care for vulnerable children in the Immizama Yethu township of Hout Bay, Cape Town. These facilities provide care and education for disadvantaged children, many of whom have broken families as a result of the AIDS pandemic. You may also have the choice of teaching in a local school. Similarly in Swaziland you will be assisting at small care centers run locally to assist orphans and vulnerable children. There are also opportunities to teach at local primary schools which are under-resourced and under funded. * How this program makes a difference: The children of Swaziland and South Africa are in great need of formal education, as it is often a child's only hope for a bright future. Sixty percent of children in Swaziland cannot afford to attend school due to the effects of unemployment, HIV AIDS and the repercussions of severe drought. South Africa also suffers from high unemployment and the high HIV rates have led to an increasing population of orphans. By teaching and working with these children you can help to provide them with basic education the support that they so desperately need.
Highlights:
* Visit 2 different countries * Work on two worthwhile projects * Enjoy a camping safari * Explore the coast of Mozambique * Go snorkeling with whale sharks.
Qualifications:
No special training or qualifications are required as you will receive training in the field.
