The Kilimanjaro Challenge: Charity Challenge / Voluntourism / bespoke group trips possible
Tanzania
Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: October, plus other times available for bespoke group requests
Description:
The ultimate African charity fund raising challenge! With this charity challenge and volunteer opportunity, help children at a local school in Moshi by completing much needed repairs and refurbishments, then climb Mt Kilimanjaro, the world's tallest freestanding volcano, on the beautiful but challenging Machame Route. Do it as an open challenge for inviduals, a bespoke group charity challenge or for CSR and team building.
Highlights:
The area surrounding Mount Kilimanjaro is home to some of Tanzania's poorest communities, and the schools are in dire need of assistance, which this challenge will help to provide. Whilst acclimatising in preparation for your climb, you will spend three days helping on a range of projects at a local school, including renovating classrooms, clearing land for sports and recreation and restoring furniture as well as spending time with the pupils of course! Then, face the challenge of a lifetime! Following the slightly longer and more scenic Machame route to the summit of majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, you will be guaranteed the best chance of successfully reaching the summit. After taking one day more than most climbs allow, giving extra time for acclimatisation, you will eventually climb to the 5,895m Uhuru peak at dawn on the sixth day to enjoy one of the most amazing sights on earth. Optional extra: Whilst in Tanzania, why not extend your trip to spend two days on safari at Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, two of the world's best locations for viewing elephant, zebra, lion and warthog. Prices available upon request.
Qualifications:
This is an open challenge, open to any individuals or groups alike. Bespoke groups trips also possible on other dates - please get in touch. No specific skills, education or certifications are necessary - just a desire to do something different and make a difference. However, as several days will be spent hiking at extreme altitude, which is an extreme physical challenge, an excellent level of fitness and physical ability is required.
