Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: Bespoke group requests: most dates available
Description:
Gaze out from the rooftop of the world and uncover the hidden kingdom on this unforgettable charity challenge in Nepal and Tibet. Explore magical Kathmandu, brimming with multi-tiered temples, whitewashed stupas and prayer flags fluttering in the Himalayan breeze. Help a local community restore buildings and improve school facilities before entering Tibet and approaching the world's highest mountain from the little-seen North Face!
Highlights:
Arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal's enigmatic capital with its narrow winding streets, Hindu devotees and temples rich with the smell of incense. We then move to the old capital of Nepal, Nuwakot rich in cultural heritage and many important historical monuments and temples remain, but one of the poorest areas in the Kathmandu Valley where many of its skilled and educated inhabitants have left for the city in search of a better life leaving in their wake a community bereft of education and skills. The Nuwakot Community Service programme was developed to assist impoverished rural communities and has been operating for several years. We spend two days on a number of volunteer projects aimed at renovation and education: One of the programmes main priorities is education, working closely with the local secondary school, and also by providing vocational training to young adults along with skill development for all ages. Other projects include helping to restore some of the historical buildings, such as Buddhist prayer halls, which have fallen into disrepair. Charity trek to Everest Base camp Then it's over the border into Tibet and a couple of days to acclimatise before reaching Tingri, and starting our approach to Base Camp Everest! Five full days are devoted to tackling this challenging trek, surrounded by some of the world's highest peaks and most remote settlements.
Qualifications:
This is a bespoke group challenge which can be tailored to your needs - please get in touch. No specific education or certifications are necessary - just a desire to do something different and make a difference. However, as several days will be spent hiking at extreme altitude, which is an extreme physical challenge, an excellent level of fitness and physical ability is required.
