The volunteer will have the opportunity to experience the true Ghanaian hospitality which embedded in our culture rather than acquired though training and formal education.
Highlights:
The volunteer will have the exclusive advantage of combining a cultural immersion programs with benefits from an eco-adventure travel to some of Ghana's most interesting tourist sites. These include the Cape Coast Castle, the Kakum National Park with its mind blowing Canopy Walkway right within the middle of this equatorial rain forest, the Mole National Park with its huge African elephants, hippos, pythons, crocodiles and many more. Specifically, the volunteer program takes the volunteer to Ghana's rural and suburban areas where there is good infrastructural layout i.e. electricity, running water, and good roads. There is also communication facilities like the internet, telephone(mobile phone services). Ghana is well developed in communication technology and the volunteer will face no challenges trying to make contacts at home from Ghana. Activities mostly centers around teaching, baby sitting, care and support for PLWHA's.The volunteer will learn of African societies, our festive occasions such as traditional festivals, weddings, our local languages, and the things we normally do at social gatherings according to our traditional norms. The Adventurer Volunteer may begin his tour from the Central Region where the evidence of the Slave Trade ever taken on the shores of West Africa. The historic monument of the Cape Coast Castle and the Elmina castle. The dungeons where the slaves were imprisoned, the 'Gate of no Return' it is the last gate slaves pass through to board the ship awaiting them to be transported to work in the plantations of the Americas. Millions of Africans were sent through that gate. The tombs of some of the Colonial British Governors who were buried in the castle could be seen. Details of the history will be told by the guide. The Ashanti region presents the culture of the Ashanti Kingdom. The Colonial British has an unforgettable history to be told during their rule of the Gold Coast(now Ghana). The Ashanti resistance to British colonial rule resulted in a series of wars between them and the British. The Manhyia Palace Museum and the Fort Museum have exhibitions of tools and weapons used in the wars against the British as well the weaker tribes during the expansion of the Ashanti Kingdom. Interestingly, the museum has beautiful sculptures of the entire dynasty of the Kingdom from the first king to the present King Nana Osei Tutu II. There is a lot more African/Ghanaian history to learn during this adventure/volunteer program. Eco-tourism has even more to present. The experience that await the adventurer volunteer at the Kakum National Park is even beyond expectation. In the Volta region, the volunteer's eyes could behold the beauty of Lake Volta. It is the largest man made lake in the world and a supplier of a large percentage of Ghana's hydro-electricity energy needs. In the Volta region we have the Wli waterfall, the largest in west Africa, monkey sanctuary of Tafi Atome and Tafi Abuife. Come and see the sacred Mona monkeys living in harmony with the humans in that serene village. In the Northern Ghana we have the large friendly crocodiles of Paga. They are totems representing ancestral legend foretold by the local people of Paga. A chicken for a meal is all they take to offer their friendly assistance to their visitor a ride across the pond. The waterfalls, the beaches, lake Volta cruises and more and more adventure.... Host family accommodation arrangements will be made and provision is also made for families with children. This is an arrangement made for couple volunteers with children.
