Internship Placement in Thailand

  Thailand
  • Bangkok:
  • Bangkok

Term: Throughout the year
Dates: Start dates vary

Description: Island Time internships are for exceptional individuals walking the path less traveled. Whether you are a High School graduate taking a time out before college, a white collar professional in search of a new career direction or a retiree hoping to learn a new craft, Island Time is your passport to Asia and the Pacific. Our placements teach job skills while contributing to society and improving our environment. Once placed, Island Time wants you to succeed. Before you arrive, we send you an extensive pre-trip reader with articles on the culture and geography of your placement area. For students seeking college credit, question sets and additional readings are included. We provide a full gear list and letter from your in-country contact person along with a list of the museums, beaches and restaurants you might want to visit. A Lonely Planet Guidebook for your placement site is standard equipment. During your internship, an Island Time in-country contact person will call or visit you on a weekly basis. We are eager to hear about your progress and suggest new and exciting places for you to visit. And though we're not councilors, you'll find an open ear should you need to talk about the challenges of living and working in a foreign land.

Highlights: Part of what makes Island Time internship placements unique is that academic credit is available. Up to nine semester hours (the equivalent of three college classes) may be earned through the Minnesota State University system for internship work in the islands. This credit is transferable and will bring you a step closer to graduation at your home college. For students exercising this option, a second pre-trip reader is included. Come to your placement well versed in the history and geography of your internship site. Additional fees apply. Please contact our office staff. Island Time runs a special eight-day island-tour in Hawaii for all interns. The dates are September 6 - 14 in the fall, and January 15 - 22 in the winter. These tours are the perfect way to kick off a fall or spring internship or incorporate a side trip into your existing placement. The tour is camping-based and takes place on the Garden Island of Kauai. This is a great opportunity for you to meet fellow interns and see an island you might otherwise miss. Day hikes in Waimea--the Grand Canyon of the Pacific--and the famed Na Pali Coast, highlight the trip Contact program staff for more details.
