  United States
  • Other Cities in United States:
  • Honolulu

Term: Throughout the year
Dates: Start dates vary

Description: Earn academic credit working with dolphins, assisting field research or working in the national park. Institute for Cultural Ecology internships are for exceptional individuals walking the path less traveled. Whether you are a High School graduate taking a time out before college, a white collar professional in search of a new career direction, or a retiree hoping to learn a new craft, Institute for Cultural Ecology is your passport to Asia and the Pacific. Our placements teach job skills while contributing to society and improving our environment. Once placed, Institute for Cultural Ecology wants you to succeed. Part of what makes Institute for Cultural Ecology internship placements unique is that academic credit is available. Up to nine semester hours (the equivalent of three college classes) may be earned through the Minnesota State University system for internship work in the islands. This credit is transferable and will bring you a step closer to graduation at your home college.

Highlights: Part of what makes Island Time internship placements unique is that academic credit is available. Up to nine semester hours (the equivalent of three college classes) may be earned through the Minnesota State University system for internship work in the islands. This credit is transferable and will bring you a step closer to graduation at your home college. For students exercising this option, a second pre-trip reader is included. Come to your placement well versed in the history and geography of your internship site. Additional fees apply. Please contact our office staff. Island Time runs a special eight-day island-tour in Hawaii for all interns. The dates are September 6 - 14 in the fall, and January 15 - 22 in the winter. These tours are the perfect way to kick off a fall or spring internship or incorporate a side trip into your existing placement. The tour is camping-based and takes place on the Garden Island of Kauai. This is a great opportunity for you to meet fellow interns and see an island you might otherwise miss. Day hikes in Waimea--the Grand Canyon of the Pacific--and the famed Na Pali Coast, highlight the trip Contact program staff for more details.
