Thanatharee Rice Barge Cruise
Thailand
Description:
A unique opportunity to explore Thailand's rural heartland along the Chao Phraya River on board an award-winning traditional teak rice barge. Leave Bangkok behind as the barge weaves through the Central Plains and discover a part of Thailand that is rarely visited by tourists. The cruise passes through rich agricultural areas dotted with small towns and villages where life moves at a slower and more gentle pace. With bicycles on board frequent stops are made along the way to explore the countryside and observe the way of life and cultural of the rural Thai people. There will be opportunities to see traditional handcrafts being produced in these areas and meet with the local people, in a world far removed from usual tourist haunts.
Highlights:
The "Thanatharee" or Treasure of the Water, is 21.1 metres in length and 5.9 metres wide. The barge provides simple but comfortable air-conditioned multi-share accommodation with on-board shower and toilet with a maximum capacity for 12 passengers. The spacious upper deck has ample room to relax, enjoy a refreshing drink, read, play games or just watch the world drift gently by. There is also sundeck for anyone wanting to work on their tan. Fresh food will be taken on board and everyone is welcome to help with cooking and learn something of the art of Thai cuisine. One can also accompany the cook to the local market during stops to buy fresh supplies. The itinerary for each departure is different but each is based on the same concept and designed to give guests the maximum opportunity to relax on this wonderful rice barge, cycle and explore remote villages, visit schools to meet the local children and village markets to buy meats and vegetables for dinner or local markets and buy meat and vegetable.
