Kilimanjaro Venture
Description:
This Venture combines two development projects, climbing three of the continent's highest peaks and the Serengeti safari. Add in a camel desert trek, white-water rafting, walking with the Maasai and the idyllic beaches of Zanzibar, and you're sure to be charmed by the diversity of this remarkable continent. Cultural Orientation (Weeks 1) A week is a long time in Africa. You'll spend your first few days meeting the locals and adjusting to their pace of life, learning some Swahili and acclimatising to the food, weather and varied rhythms of this alternately laid-back and frantic continent. Volunteer Project (Weeks 2, 4-5) During your volunteering phase you will participate in two different projects in Tanzania and Uganda. Help out in an orphanage in Tanzania providing extra tuition and constructing new facilities which never fails to be rewarding. Working alongside school staff and local children there will be plenty of opportunities to practice Swahili. Your assistance on a rural water-harvesting programme to provide clean drinking water to a village in Uganda will make an invaluable difference to the lives of people living in some of Africas most remote villages. Expedition and Adventure (Weeks 3, 6-10) The exploration aspect of your Venture is rich in essential African experiences. From a safari in Ugandas Queen Elizabeth National Park, the pearl of Africa with its vast range of wildlife, including hippos, leopards, elephants and chimpanzees around every corner lurks sights that will stay with you for a lifetime. Youll trek through crater lakes and perhaps, most impressively, climb two of Africas highest mountains, Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya. Your final week is for relaxation and where better than the pristine beaches of exotic Zanzibar.
