Description:
Pioneer Madagascar is an initiative of Azafady, a charity working on humanitarian, development and environmental projects in Madagascar. During placements, volunteers will learn to speak basic Malagasy and gather skills relevant to working in the fields of development, conservation and sustainable livelihoods. The ten week schemes involve living and travelling in some of the most beautiful and remote parts of Madagascar, working hands-on with village communities, Malagasy biologists and our international team of group leaders. This programme focuses sensitively on local needs, human and otherwise, with a diversity of project work ranging from field studies on endangered species to digging wells and latrine pits, to help protect local people from diseases such as cholera. Azafady received the prestigious Sting and Trudie Styler Award for its work in conservation and human rights.
Highlights:
Working closely with rural communities to help them gain access to the basics of food, clean water and sustainable livelihoods. Experiencing some of the wealth of plants and animals found only in Madagascar, not least the many species of lemur.

No special skills or qualifications are needed as all required skills are learned. However, while practical & research experience is welcome, enthusiasm & sensitivity are a must. Successful applicants will learn skills associated with conservation and rural development work.
