  • Lima

Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: Numerous Departures from January to April 2008

Description: Immerse yourself in the South American culture, learn a language and then put this into practice working on a month long community and/or conservation Project in Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, or Brazil. Reward your hard work by continuing on with our 6 week Andean or Brazil Explorer.

Language Phase 3 weeks:

One to one or small group Spanish /Portuguese tuition and exploration in Quito, Sucre, Rio or Salvador - visit vibrant indigenous market towns, beaches and surrounding cloud forests. So after your four hours of Spanish tuition each day you can head out and practice every afternoon - whether at the local market or whilst playing football with the local teachers.

Project Phase 4 weeks: Choice of of of the following:

Peru: A fantastic opportunity to work with energetic children in the shanty town of Villa Maria.
Brazil: Work on a community and conservation Project on an island paradise, or support the children of the Mangueira Favela during Carnival.
Ecuador: Conserve the rainforest and the communities within it, deep in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
Bolivia: Work with jaguars, monkeys and pumas in The Amazon Basin

Explorer Phase 6 weeks: Depending on which Project you work on you will then join one of the following expeditions:

Peru, Bolivia and Chile: Andean Explorer
Following your time on the project, you will journey from the Andes to the Amazon. From snow-capped mountains to pristine white beaches, South America offers landscapes, people and wildlife like no other. The journey will combine vibrant, bustling cities and remote, indigenous communities. It will introduce you to the magic of the Amazon Rainforest, to the exhilaration of sand-boarding, ice-climbing and trekking the Inca Trail, and a whole lot more.

Brazil: Brazil Explorer
Whilst on Expedition you'll travel from the golden coastline of Brazil to the darkest depths of the Amazon, you'll take a 4-day surf course, hang glide over Rio de Janeiro and dance in its hottest nightspots.

Brazil, Bolivia: Brazil to Bolivia Explorer
You'll take a journey through two of the most contrasting countries in South America. From the beach culture of Rio de Janeiro to the ancient civilisations of Lake Titicaca, from the wild wetlands of the Pantanal to the dizzying heights of the Andes, South America cannot fail to fill you with wonder. You'll hang glide over Rio then dance in its hottest nightspots, go white water rafting, take wildlife canoeing safaris, visit Inca ruins, drive through the surreal landscapes of the Bolivian Salt Flats and climb the icy heights surrounding La Paz. This is an awesome journey sampling the diverse flavours these countries have to offer.
