Term: Spring, Summer
Dates: May, June and July
Description:
Short (4 weeks/6 semester credits) experiential educational program (May/June or June/July) to study Australian and Aboriginal culture and Queensland's rainforest, Outback, marine, and coastal environments through field activities and classes. Known as the Sunshine State, Queensland is home to the Outback, lush green rainforests, golden coastal beaches, and the marine diversity and beauty of the Great Barrier Reef. We spend 12 days at the tropical, sunny campus of James Cook University in Cairns, before embarking upon a 2-week study tour of Queensland. A typical itinerary includes snorkeling and/or diving on the Great Barrier Reef, hiking in the rainforests of Daintree World Heritage Area, and experiencing Aboriginal culture and wildlife of the Outback. Queensland has a wonderful warm tropical climate throughout the year. This program can be combined with the 8-day program in the Fiji Islands for an additional 3 credits.
Highlights:
* Earn 6 semester credits in a variety of course options. * Students from all majors are encouraged to apply, as we take an interdisciplinary perspective to explore the connections between people and their natural environments. * Study under knowledgeable university faculty and professional field guides. * Explore Australia through exciting outdoor activities, including kayaking and hiking. * Activities and excursions relate what you have learnt in the classroom to the field. * AUIP will work directly with students and advisers in ensuring credits are transferred to your home institution.
