Nepal - Rafting the Mighty Karnali

  Nepal
  • Kathmandu:
  • Kathmandu

Description: This is a remote white water experience and one of the finest rafting trips of its length in the world - nearly 400 kms, most of it class 3 to 5, with only a few kms of porterage. In the remote 'Wild West' of Nepal this is the complete expedition experience.

The Karnali, Nepal's mightiest river, descends through the Himalaya in a series of magnificent gorges. In traditional Nepalese fashion, dozens of porters carry our equipment to and from the river. Exceptional big volume river through tropical jungle, with deserted beaches and once in a while remote small villages.

The upper sections are particularly attractive with pine forests and grand gorges cut by the blue alpine river. The starting point is deep and pathless gorge, then as we steadily descend the valley opens out to show an arid landscape. The long high ridges of far west Nepal's middle hills are seen as we run this section. The lower third of the river is again in deep canyons - wild and sparsely populated. The final section runs through some of the finest jungle scenery in the whole of Nepal, with opportunities to see wildlife along the river banks.

Nepal Kingdom Foundation & Muirs Tours's Mission Statement: The Nepal Kingdom Foundation was established in 1982 to develop community spirit and preserve the culture and traditions of the Nepalese people in the UK. In 1999 the objectives were extended to include development projects in Nepal to help the needy of one of the world's poorest countries. The not-for-profit tour operation - Muirs Tours was set up in July 1999 by the Nepal Kingdom Foundation as a means of raising funds for use in projects in Nepal and the Nepalese Community in the UK. From the outset Muirs Tours planned to provide trips to other places outside of Nepal and support to other charities. It currently supports the WWF, the John Muir Trust, Tourism Concern, Survival International, the Tibetan Government in exile, the American Indian Heritage Foundation as well as the Nepal Kingdom Foundation.
