Canada - Black Bears and Other Wildlife
Canada
- All Other Areas in Canada:
Winnipeg
Dates: June through October
Description:
See black bears and other wildlife - southern Manitoba. About 3 hours west of Winnipeg, Manitoba, lies Riding Mountain National Park, a rugged region of hills and escarpments in sharp contrast to the table-flat prairies of southern Manitoba. The mountains are covered with beautiful coniferous and hardwood forests interspersed with open meadows, all filled with healthy populations of wildlife, including black bear. Our Black and White Adventure enables you to see the black bears in Riding Mountain National Park plus the polar bears of Churchill on the same trip. One portion of the tour will be spent at a comfortable guest ranch near the park.
Highlights:
The animals seen here are black bear, beaver, bison, moose, elk, whitetail deer, coyote, lynx, raccoon, porcupine, red squirrel, snow-shoe hare, badger, otter, mink and various ground squirrels plus a variety of birds such as common loon, great gray owl, bald eagle, pileated woodpecker and wood duck. Day 1: Overnight at a Winnipeg hotel. This is not included in the price below, as you can stipulate the type of hotel required. Day 2: Meet your guide and depart Winnipeg for Riding Mountain National Park. We will visit the Delta Marsh Waterfowl Research Centre (too wet in late Oct) as well as Oak Hammock Marsh on the way. We will stop for lunch also. Arrive and meet the staff & pets, get settled into your rooms and then enjoy a welcome dinner. (L, D). Days 3 & 4: For the next 2 days enjoy your beautiful surroundings. Wildlife activities begin at first light and end at sundown. We will have 3 home cooked meals daily, and participate in wildlife safaris, guided nature walks, and sessions in the bear viewing blind. Nature interpretive commentary covers the biomes and ecosystems for the area with special emphasis on the large mammals and seasons. Enjoy slide presentations in the evening. (B, L, D). Day 5: After breakfast, take the 3 hour drive back to Winnipeg. (B).
