Garcia Lorca Spanish School in Madrid, Spain

  Spain
  • Madrid:
  • Madrid

Term: Throughout the year

Description: If you would really like to immerse yourself in the vividness of Spain, what could be better than taking an entertaining Spanish course in the vibrant, beating heart of downtown Madrid in small classes taught by our native speakers. You can receive university credit for a month of classes that is equivalent to half a years study back home, greatly increasing your conversational and comprehension skills. The Garcia Lorca Spanish School is a recognized center with a highly qualified and motivated staff, for which we have been awarded the Madrid City, Golden Laurel in 1999. Come and study with us, where the practical learn by doing approach is combined with the vivacious Spanish culture.

Romantic and poetic Spain is waiting for you to broaden your horizons, enhance your education and gain valuable experience for your career. Fun and excitement in Madrid. As Federico Garcia Lorca wrote, 'The air of Andalusian Rome gilded his head where his smile was a flower of wit and intelligence. What a great torero in the ring! What a good farmer in the sierra! How gentle with the wheat! How hard with the spurs! How tender with the dew! How dazzling the fiesta!' Spain and the Spanish are all this and more.

Highlights: The intensive Spanish program is 4 weeks long, with 20 hours of lessons a week in the mornings and begins the first Monday of every month. The classes are small, averaging about 5 students per class, which is a great benefit in individual attention and speeds up the learning process.

- Why Spain' From its stunning beaches to its medieval castles, Spain is a country as diverse as the Roman, Jewish and Arab cultures that have influenced its art, architecture, music and lifestyle. It is a land where cathedrals, palaces, flamenco guitars and dancers, friendly 'tapas' bars, famous museums and folklore festivals, make it a unique and enchanting place to work, study and enjoy the Spanish art of living.

- Why Madrid' The Spanish coast and islands are the most popular vacation spots of Europe, while Madrid is Europe's most exciting capital city. Rich in history and tradition, it provides the perfect surroundings for your studies. You will delight in discovering the world famous Reina Sofia Museum, the Plaza Mayor, the magnificent Retiro Park and Botancial Garden, as well as the Rastro, Madrid's famous street market. After these visits, we recommend going to one of Madrid's popular 'tascas' (taverns), where you will find a vast array of 'Tapas' (canapes). Night owls can enjoy the many late night bars and terrace cafýs that the city has to offer.

- The Garcia Lorca Spanish School program includes Spanish culture classes and workshops on history, civilization, art, politics and drama. The Garcia Lorca Spanish School cultural agenda includes guided excursions to local attractions. Sample excursions include: Royal Palace, Prado Museum, Romantic Museum, and much more. The evening agenda includes fiestas, tapas, flamenco performances and more. These activities are optional and the students always go accompanied by a representative or a teacher from the school. This improves the relationship between teachers and pupils, who become friends and thus create a better atmosphere in the classroom and enable a greater understanding of the life of the country, its residents and culture.

- The activities facilitate getting in contact with Spaniards and, thus, considerably accelerate the language learning process. And what is more important, they are lots of fun! For these optional activities, the student pays for themselves as they would for drinks, entrances to the cinema etc. At the weekend, the school organizes day excursions to Toledo, Segovia, Salamanca, ývila, Aranjuez, etc. These excursions are offered at reasonable rates of about $30. Our professors also facilitate 'Intercambios' or language exchanges with Spanish students.

- You are also warmly welcomed into the fun Garcia Lorca Club which, depending on the month, organizes the following Fiestas: Flamenco Nights, Pub Nights, Concert Nights, Movie and Live Theatre Nights, Casino Night, Terraza Night and Day Trips: Golf Day, Football and Picnic in Retiro, Bullfighting and Barbecue Day, Don Quijote Road Trip, Segýbriga Roman city trip, The Fallas of Valencia, The Grape Picking Party, The Celtic Iberian town of Numancia, and on the Trail of Dinosaurs in Soria. As you can see, studying with us is all about learning a lot and stopping to smell the roses!
