Term: Summer 
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks

Description: Persons with particular skills in Archaeology/Anthropology and Environmental Science. BA degree required for Volunteer positions. CV/Resume to be forwarded to Administrator, Achill Folklife Centre, Dooagh, Achill Island, Co. Mayo. Ireland.

Highlights: Meeting and keeping new lifelong friends. Exploration of a unique landscape. Weekly field trips to a range of archaeological monuments dating from the Neolithic to the Post Medieval (5000 BC - 1900 AD).

Participation in a research excavation at the Deserted Village of Slievemore. Learning new skills from experienced teachers.

Qualifications: No prior experience or qualifications necessary. Full training will be provided.

Achill Archaeological Field School's Mission Statement: In 1991, the Deserted Village project was set up with the stated aim of carrying out a detailed survey of the archaeological remains on Slievemore Mountain at 2214' (671m), the highest mountain on Achill Island, together with the excavation of selected houses and other archaeological features within the village/s. It is our intention to provide all participants with an unforgettable experience of excavation at the Deserted Village and of life in Ireland.
