Polar Bears of Churchill

  Canada
  • All Other Areas in Canada:
  • Churchill

Dates: October & November each year

Description: Wildlife watching on the tundra from the safety of a purpose built vehicle. The bears are heading towards Hudson Bay, where they will start hunting seals.

The height of the season for polar bear watching is mid October to mid November each year, although it varies a little from year to year, as it is the freeze up of Hudson bay that dictates events. Book early if you want late October or early November. You will see bears on any of the dates we offer, it's the number of bears that varies.

There are many options, the most popular are the Specialist Photographic and Natural History Tours. These include 4 - 7 nights in the area, with 2+ - 7 full days of bear watching on the tundra. A great opportunity to concentrate on bear observation, with the maximum time spent on the tundra.

The Classic Tour has just 2 days and 1 evening on the tundra with a specialist guide, but gives a wide range of experiences for a great price.

Some of our groups are based in Churchill hotels and you travel each day onto the tundra and other groups are based in special facilities on the tundra, allowing up to 24 hours a day for observation. Or there is a Combination package with 2 or 3 nights on the tundra and other nights in Churchill giving 4 full days on the tundra.

The Enthusiast Tours offer local history and culture in addition to viewing the bears. You slowly travel around Gordon Point, the heart of the best bear country in the Churchill area. Nights are either spent in hotels in Churchill or you can sleep over in the Tundra Buggy Lodge. Some of the Enthusiast trips give the option to travel by train through Manitoba to add an extra dimension to your polar bear safari.

The Adventurer Tours provides 2 or 3 full days on the tundra, but unlike the other tours, we do not provide a naturalist guide, so the cost is lower. Information is given by the tundra buggy's knowledgeable driver.

Before you make a booking we need to provide you with a detailed itinerary and current price, allowing for exchange rates. Some of our trips are based on the US Dollar and some on the Canadian Dollar. The tours priced in Canadian Dollars need local taxes to be added, the tours priced in US Dollars are inclusive of taxes. The exchange rate fluctuations and the sheer number of options makes it important to ensure you have fully understood what is included and excluded, so we need to provide you with a personalised up to date quotation, before you sign up. Our prices include a 3% discount for dealing by email (with telephone support).

Highlights: Close up views of these impressive creatures in the wild is one of the wildest experiences you can imagine.

The not-for-profit tour operation - Muirs Tours was set up in July 1999 by the Nepal Kingdom Foundation as a means of raising funds for use in projects in Nepal and the Nepalese Community in the UK. From the outset Muirs Tours planned to provide trips to other places outside of Nepal and support to other charities. It currently supports the WWF, the John Muir Trust, Tourism Concern, Survival International, the Tibetan Government in exile, the American Indian Heritage Foundation as well as the Nepal Kingdom Foundation.
